SIGMOD 2014 Call for Demonstration Proposals
The SIGMOD demonstration program has become an important venue to share cutting-edge, prototype data management systems with the greater SIGMOD community. We solicit submissions of demonstration proposals, where the demonstrations described will showcase the most exciting new data management technologies. Data management technologies may consist of software, hardware, or both. The emphasis of the SIGMOD demonstration program is on visionary, next generation systems requiring significant research and development effort.
Selection of demonstrations for presentation at SIGMOD has become highly competitive. In the past, demonstration proposals were often written in the style of mini research papers, describing primarily the novel intellectual content of the underlying system. While the intellectual content of the system as well as the system architecture should be clear from a good demonstration proposal, it is at least as important for the proposal to describe in detail what SIGMOD attendees who view the demonstration will experience. What exactly will the audience see? Will the audience be able to interact with the system? Is there an interesting scenario or script that the demonstrators will use to motivate the demonstration? Given how competitive selection of demonstration proposals has become, it is unlikely that demonstration proposals that do not focus on the actual audience experience will be selected for presentation.
The demonstration proposal must include citations of the most relevant papers about the demonstrated system and any previous demonstration of that same system. Priority will be given to systems that have never been demonstrated before.
Demonstration proposals must be no more than FOUR US letter pages in length. This page limit includes all parts of a proposal: title, abstract, body, and bibliography. The camera-ready of an accepted proposal must also observe the same page limit.
Demonstration proposals must adhere to the general SIGMOD formatting guidelines. Submissions to the demonstrations track are NOT subject to double blind reviewing. The author name(s) and affiliation(s) must be present in the submitted document. Any proposal violating the length, file type, or formatting requirements will be rejected without review.
The submission deadline is December 10, 2013 4:59pm PST (abstract submission is not required). Late proposals will not be considered. All submissions must be done electronically through https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/SIGMOD2014/.
Accepted proposals will appear in the final proceedings. The camera-ready deadline is the same as for regular research papers.
